Is a Gas Rebate Credit Card a Good Deal?

Gas prices are still high by anyone’s definition.  In these times of recession we’re all looking foe ways to cut the cost of filling our tank.  You may have recently received a promotion offering a gas rebate credit card, and you’re wondering if this might be a good opportunity.

Gas rebate cards are the province of credit card companies and branded gas retailers.  There are a number of ways these cards are better than conventional credit cards.

Lower interest rates. Lenient approval standards. Savings on every purchase of gas. Discounts on auto maintenance and repairs.

If your credit has been damaged and you’re looking for a chance to repair it, these cards offer you a good option.  They’re also helpful if you are striving to develop a timely payment history.

While gas rebate cards offer you a real value, you’re not going to save a fortune.  However, if you’re realistic, these gas rebate cards are beneficial.

There are many gas rebate cards on the market.  You’ll need to research in order to find the one ideal for you.

Signing up always results in big rewards – Those rewards get smaller with time.  Some gas rebate cards are brand-specific.  The biggest rebates come from buying a certain brand name gasoline.  Other cards can be used to purchase almost anything, with the rewards exclusive to gasoline.  It is best to be thoroughly familiar with the restrictions and expectations of your particular card.

Your gasoline rebates are not automatic.  You will have to request rebates in a manner similar to using bonus points with other credit cards.

Always familiarize yourself with your particular cards limits and restrictions.  Some gasoline rebate credit cards will limit the amount of rebates you can receive in any given year.

Remember, as well, that the terms and limits of any credit card can change (read it in the fine print) often and, sometimes, without notice.  For these reasons, try to go with a reputable credit card issuer or a familiar brand name.  There’s no guarantee this precaution will save you problems, but better the devil you know than the one you do not.

Many gasoline companies have started offering gas rebate cards. They are useful for keeping your gas bill and other car expenses in control. Chintamani Abhyankar tells you what to expect from such cards in this article.

Getting the Best Deal from Your Gas Supplier

Gas for domestic or business use is bought wholesale by the array of suppliers operating within the UK market and then distributed to households or commercial premises via these suppliers. Gas bills are calculated on the basis of how many units of energy are consumed, usually alongside a standing charge. Gas meters measure the volume of gas used in cubic feet or cubic metres and the gas companies convert this into kilowatt hours.

Among the wide range of energy suppliers there is an equally wide range of gas prices, which are organised through an array of pricing plans. These plans provide a different set of benefits to different consumers, depending on the energy needs of the business or household.

Most suppliers offer standard or default plans but there are a range of specialist structures with their own system for determining gas prices, such as green plans, which are designed to mitigate climate change; fixed plans, which freeze the price of a unit of energy for a certain period; capped plans, where gas prices won’t rise for a set period but can be reduced if prices fall; online plans, which allow households to sign up via the internet and manage their accounts online; business energy plans tailor-made for commercial gas and electricity consumption; and social plans, which are equal to an energy provider’s cheapest deal and which they are obliged to provide to help the poorest households pay their bills.

Since 1999 all UK consumers of gas and electricity consumers have the right to switch their supply to any of the regulated gas providers in the market, allowing households to move on if their gas supply becomes unacceptably expensive or service standards fall below an acceptable level. Many customers have saved up to £425 a year by simply switching supplier.

The process of switching supplier is less complicated than people think and is completely free when using some price comparison websites. All gas suppliers use the same supply lines, wires and meters and when a customer informs them that they wish to switch to them, they are obliged to contact the old supplier themselves and arrange the transfer. If the switch goes according to plan, then the only difference that the customer will notice should be a new supplier’s name and logo on the bill – and cheaper  gas.

What’s the Deal With Gas Rebate Credit Cards?

With oil prices breaking records on what seems to be a weekly basis, is there any end in site to the pain we’re suffering at the pump? To be honest, I don’t know. But I can advise you on free ways to save money at the pump by simply paying for your gas purchases using a credit card. Here’s how:

Merchants (the gas stations) must pay a small percentage of your purchase price to the credit card issuers in what is called transaction fees. These fees typically make up anywhere from 1% to 5% of your purchase. Have you ever felt it’s not fair that the credit card companies are making extra money off you this way? Well the good news is you can get that money back, in the form of cash in your pocket, that is if you know the right credit cards to use.

Right now there are a couple major gas reward credit cards on the market which offer you at least 5% cashback on your gas purchases. These cards are free, no annual fee, so if you already use a credit card to pay for your gas, it may be smart to switch to one of these cards instead. There are other cards on the market which also offer your 2% or 3% cash back on gas, but we’ll focus here on telling you about the cards which pay the highest rebate of 5%.

You can read almost any American Express Simply Cash review to see that this card is a no brainer if you qualify for it. What makes this card unique is that in addition to the high rebate if offers on gas, it also gives you 5% cash back on office supplies as well as wireless services. That means purchases at places like Staples and Office Depot, as well as your cell phone bill or even a cell phone purchase, qualify for this rebate amount. This is a business card so you can either apply using a corporation or LLC, or by simply using your name and social security
number in the form of what is called a sole proprietorship.

One of the other great cards on the market is the Discover Open Road credit card. This card not only offers 5% rebate on gas, but also auto maintenance – making it the perfect companion for all auto related purchases. This card also has no annual fee.

Obviously gas rebate credit cards are far from a solution to outrageous gas prices. However they are a tool, when used properly by the consumer, that can offer a small free discount on gas purchases.
