Go Green with Gas Mileage Savings Tips from DealMax

One of the most trouble-free ways in which you can preserve the limited resources of the earth and improve air quality is by driving more intelligently. Getting improved gas mileage doesn’t only reduce damage to the earth, it also saves money, according to DealMax, which extends access to discounts on items and services people use every day. To pass the news about how to get the most out of fuel economy, DealMax reminds car owners of a few primary hints and tools.

Driving sanely is the first rule. Rapid acceleration and banging on the brakes frequently produces jumps in your gas usage that can reach 30 percent or higher while driving on highways. This adds to the emissions that escape from your automobile and foul the surroundings. Keep an even speed to keep the air easier to breathe, and spare yourself the extra charges at the gas pump too. Your auto also uses more gas at increased speeds, which results in wasted fuel, besides putting you at a risk of car accidents.

Maintaining your vehicle is a close second on the list. Sticking to a standard maintenance schedule helps your automobile work more expeditiously. What else does DealMax recommend for keeping your car operating at its “green” best?

Make sure the engine is properly tuned. Improve your fuel mileage by driving on tires with the right amount of air in them. Purchase the grade of fuel advocated for your car. Many of us trust a professional auto-body shop to do work on our cars. Ask friends and coworkers for a recommendation. You can also check on the web to discover if there are any negative reviews, claims of fraud and unnecessary repairs at a given business. Find a dependable mechanic, and discuss the most cost-effective tips for your particular make and model.

Go green by car-pooling and combining trips. Car-pooling to work can reduce your fuel costs by half or more. Use the most fuel-efficient car to save even more on gas bills and reduce emissions. According to DealMax, making a few quick errands can waste twice as much gas as taking one main trip with multiple stops. This is because turning a cold engine over uses more gasoline than making a few stops when the engine is hot and running well.

These are just a few of the ways that you can become more environmentally-friendly and save on charges at the pump. Other tips include minimizing extra weight in or on top of the automobile to improve on gasoline economy. Swap out old air filters, and inject new oil at scheduled intervals. And most of all, pick a fuel-efficient car that is known to have a less-invasive impact on the environment.

DealMax points out that until alternative sources of energy and automobile technologies are widely available, we have to continue to rely on fossil fuels or oil. Pointing out that burning oil ruins air quality and adds to global warming is no longer considered a fraud. It is up to every last one of us to do what we can to save the planet. If you drive, saving on gas mileage is a crucial way to go greener.

Better Gas Mileage in 7 Easy Steps

As gas is getting more expensive every day, those of you with a long commute or many driving miles can feel the weight of ever growing gas expenses.

Luckily it’s easy to lower your gas bill and below I list seven strategies that are easy to implement and does not require you to invest money in a new car or snake oil add-on kits.

1. MAINTAIN PROPER TIRE PRESSURE

Driving with under inflated tires is not only dangerous as the tires could overheat, it also uses more gas than driving with properly inflated tires.

Inflate your tires at least to the maximum allowed by the car’s instruction manual, and check the pressure at least once a month using a reliable pressure gauge.

Many hypermilers inflate their tires more than that, to the maximum pressure printed on the sidewalls of the tires themselves. This can be as much as 60 percent more than the vehicle manufacturers recommendation and results in additional fuel savings due to the lower rolling resistance of a hard tire.

The downside is a harder and less comfortable ride. And I can’t even recommend you to do this, even if it IS safe, as there is a possibility of uneven tire wear in some conditions.

2. REMOVE SKI BOXES, TRAILERS AND ROOF RACKS

If you thought it’s too much of a hassle to remove the roof rack or ski box when it’s not needed or to unhook the trailer, think again!

Anything that you attach to the outside of the car will spoil the aerodynamics of the car and with that your fuel economy. Always remove roof racks, bicycle holders, ski boxes and trailers when not needed and use a truck bed cover to enhance the aerodynamics of your pick-up truck.

3. TURN OFF THE A/C

Even if some argue that the air conditioning unit does not affect fuel economy, it actually consumes lots of energy. That energy is taken stright from your tank and from your fuel economy. Turn it off when possible and if that’s too uncomfortable set it to a higher temperature as that will make it use less gas.

TIPS: Park the car in the shadow, have the doors open for a minute before leaving, drive at night if going for a longer trip in hot weather.

Keep in mind that driving fast with all windows open is worse for your MPG than turning on the A/C, thus use the air condition instead of opening windows.

4. BETTER YOUR DRIVING STYLE

Your driving style is one of the biggest factors affecting your fuel economy. Keep your top speed below 60MPH or 100KM/H, avoid breaking by letting the car roll to a stop when you’re not in the way for other traffic and do not push the pedal to the metal when accelerating.

5. WALK

Many times if you’re not going that far, walking or biking is a lot more economic than taking the car. You’ll save a lot of fuel and you’ll also avoid the other maintanance costs associated with driving.

6. FIX YOUR FUEL LEAKS

Obviously if you have a fuel leak you will spill your hard earned gas on the ground costing you money and polluting the environment. Repair all fuel leaks immediately.

TIP: If the gas cap is broken or missing a lot of gas will evaporate through the missing or broken cap and escape into the air. This is especially true in hot climates and when parking in the sun. The loss can be sizable and the gas vapors will harm the envirnment.

7. FIND A CAR POOL

Sharing a car on your daily commute can be a fair amount of hassle compared to going alone but you’ll save more gas and money than from using any of the other tips except for actually walking or biking.

Joining with just one other person to use the same car for your commute will save you half your monthly commuting cost.

ADDITIONAL GAS SAVING TIPS

Those tips are the easiest, most readily available, low cost ways you can save lots of fuel. A no gadgets needed gas saving bag of tricks.

There are many additional ways to improve your gas mileage. You can get a more fuel efficient vehicle (hybrid, diesel, smaller car), make adjustments to your driving style, improve your cars aerodynamics, use tires with a low rolling resistance, plan your trips, adjust for extreme weather conditions and a lot more that this article is too short to cover.

There’s also many ways to NOT save gas, like installing one of those fuel saving gadgets advertised everywhere. They usually cost a lot but give barely measurable improvements in MPG.

To keep track of your actual gas mileage you can use a handy online gas mileage calculator or you can use the fuel consumption display that’s included in many new cars or an aftermarket fuel consumption display that can be installed in most newer cars.

Simon Byholm runs the free gas mileage calculator at MilesGallon.com, where you can find automotive calculators and tips on how to improve your fuel economy. Simon has a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, owns a 15 acer hobby farm and is a proud owner of a diesel powered car.

Increase Gas Mileage and Save Money on Gas With These Top 10 Tips

The message screams at us from every sign at every corner gas station-gasoline prices are at an all-time high and there’s no indication that relief is anywhere in site. In fact, many experts are saying it could get worse-much worse-and that’s sending masses of motorists scrambling for ways to cut down on gas consumption.

What are your options when there are so many different crackpot methods online? Just today we saw a television news station advising drivers to fill up their gas tanks in the morning when gas is cooler and more condensed, as a way of getting more for your money. Liquids do take up less volume when they are cold, but this advice is not going to make a massive difference to your gas bill.

This outdated advice may have been true once-we don’t know for sure-but we do know that today gas stations store fuel below ground in 30,000-gallon tanks. What this means is that the gas will remain at near a contsant temperature so that daily cycles will not cause it to expand or contract.

We’ve seen all sorts of other bad advice that’s outdated, ill-advised or just outright fraud. Claims that devises which bleed air into the carburetor can dramatically increase gas mileage turn out not to be true when put to the test under closely monitored conditions.

Face it-with a long-term gas crises looming ahead, there are plenty of governmental bodies and even private industries that have good reason to want to help you save on gas. So counting down, here are the top 10 tips that you can use to really help save money on gas and reduce consumption:

10. Keep your tires properly inflated according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Under inflated tires make the vehicle run less efficiently and waste gas. In fact, it can be estimated that for every 1lb of under inflation, you could be losing up to 5% of your gas mileage.

9. Don’t be an aggressive driver. Jackrabbit starts, tire screeching stops and speeding can lower your gas mileage by 5% on city streets and as much as 33% on highways. Try to look ahead and see where you may need to slow down or stop, this way you can take your foot off the pedal and allow the car to coast and slow naturally.

8. Avoid excessive idling. You waste a gallon of gas for every 15 minutes your car is left idling. If you can, time your journeys so that you avoid sitting forever at traffic lights and try and cut the time you need for your car to warm up. In warm weather, driving is actually the most efficient way to warm up a combustion engine. Idling is the worst thing you can do – you get zero miles to the gallon if your car is running but not moving!

7. Slow down. The faster you go, the less efficiently your vehicle uses gas. 55 is the most efficient mph on highways. Go above 60 and your fuel efficiency decreases rapidly.

6. Remove excess weight. If you’re used to driving around with your golf clubs and a chain saw in your trunk, you’re paying a heavy price for it. Removing an extra 100 pounds from your car will increase your fuel efficiency by as much as 2%.

How Can I Improve My Gas Mileage?

Filed under: Cheaper Utility bills — Tags: , — admin @ 1:38 am

How can I improve my gas mileage? I have been asking myself that question for a long time now. We have all had a good old moan every time that the price of gas has risen when we have gone to fill up, and like me most of us have just accepted it and done nothing about it. Now with the ever increasing price of oil, and with little sign of a drop in the price of gas at the pumps, it seems even more important to find ways to increase gas mileage.

So just how can I improve my gas mileage? and what are the main things about the way I drive that would cause low gas mileage? Well I have done a bit of research and have come up with a few simple ways to increase gas mileage just by improving my driving technique. They are only small things and most are just common sense, things like finding the optimum speed for gas mileage, and keeping my car and its engine regularly serviced, but all these little things together can add up and give you some real gas mileage improvements.

First of all fast driving and good gas mileage just do not go together, the faster you drive the more gas you use, and everyone knows that. But did you know that a car travelling at 80mph can use up to twice the amount of gas as a car travelling at 30mph. For most cars a cruising speed of around 50mph will give you significant gas mileage improvements. So you could say that “fifty is thrifty.”

Another of the ways to increase gas mileage is the way we drive when it come to climbing a hill, try not to stay in a high gear for too long, this not only puts a strain on your engine it also uses more gas. Whenever possible try to build up enough speed before you reach the hill, this way you will have the momentum to climb the hill at a constant speed without having to keep changing down and revving the engine. Don’t try coasting down a hill in neutral or with the ignition switched off to try to save on gas, not only is it dangerous as you do not have full control of the car it is also illegal and any fuel saving is negligible.

If you have a vehicle with a manual gearbox then changing gear at the right time can also give you good gas mileage improvements. Always accelerate gently and smoothly and try to change gear at between 2000 and 3000 rpm, the engine speed at which most cars run efficiently. If you have an automatic gearbox then always drive with the lever in the “drive” position as an automatic will sense for itself when to change gear economically. If you do need to override the gearbox manually then select the low or intermediate position rather than use the “kick-down” as this too increases gas consumption.

These are just a few simple ways to increase gas mileage, and added together you should be able to notice a drop in your gas consumption and so save a few dollars at the pumps. But while I was looking for ways to increase gas mileage I read about something that could give even better gas mileage improvements. With the new HHO gas mileage devices available you could cut your gas bill by 35% or more so I think that I will be doing a lot more research on this for a while.

Become A “Hypermiler” And Get Great Gas Mileage Improvements For Your Car

With the price of gas constantly hitting new highs and with very little chance of it coming down, a new type of driver is evolving, (the “Hypermiler”). This new style driver or “Hypermiler” will try any trick or tip to get the best gas mileage improvements from their car or SUV, and then use these gas mileage secrets to save on their weekly gas bill. Some of these tips are simple ones like making sure that tires are inflated correctly, while others are more complex and involve the use of gadgets and gizmos.

So where did the name “Hypermiler” come from? Well it seems to have originated from the Hybrid-Vehicle driving clubs, where members compete with each other to find the best MPG for their particular vehicle and beat the EPA gas mileage fuel efficiency estimates. With the use of real-time mileage displays they can identify the best techniques to get the gas mileage improvements that they and everyone else are after. Some have even reported to have made as much as a 40% saving when compared to the EPA gas mileage estimates

The “Hypermiler” trend started out as a bit of competitive fun, where people would take part in races and “Hypermileage” marathons. In this way the different techniques, tricks, and gas mileage secrets were put to the test and the winner was the person who achieved the best gas mileage improvements. However with the constant rise in the price of gas the “Hypermiler” has come to the attention of the media, and these gas mileage secrets have become widely sought after by the everyday motorist.

These days the “Hypermiler” is more likely to be the average working man or woman who is just trying to get the best fuel economy possible for their car. By using the gas mileage secrets that were discovered by the Hybrid-Vehicle driving clubs they are able to make their own savings at the gas pumps. Even the drivers of the larger cars and SUVs who can better afford the rising prices are trying to find ways to increase their fuel economy simply as a matter of principle as well as a way to save a few cents.

Although the term “Hypermiling” sounds like a very American idea the whole concept of fuel efficiency and saving gas has worldwide appeal. In Europe especially, where the gas prices are double what we pay (and have been for many years) the term “Eco-driving” has been around for some time. The Eco-driver uses the same tips and tricks as the “Hypermiler” to try to increase their fuel efficiency.

So it seems that no matter where we live in the world, the days of cheap gas and the big gas guzzling cars that we used to drive are soon to be a thing of the past. With the dwindling gas supplies causing ever increasing price rises, together with the pollution caused by the use of poor fuel efficient cars, we will soon find we will all have to discover ways to make gas mileage improvements to our own vehicles and perhaps become a “Hypermiler ourselves.

Top Ten Ways to Improve Gas Mileage. Simple Tips to Get More Mpg for Your Car

Lets face it the price of gas is still rising and there is very little chance that it will ever fall back down to what it was. In fact the experts are predicting that it is going to get a lot worse, and this is sending many drivers into a frenzy trying to find ways to improve gas mileage and squeeze every last drop of gas out of their cars to get more MPG.

So just what can we do to get more MPG from our cars? Just a quick look on the internet will turn up hundreds of so called “gas mileage devices” that promise to get more MPG from your engine. Now I’m not saying that all these gas mileage devices are scams, but a lot of them sound pretty far fetched. With this in mind I have done some research and come up with ten ways to improve gas mileage using tips that most experts agree actually work.

1) This one is so obvious that it often gets overlooked. Make sure that your gas cap is in good condition and that the seal is not worn or broken. A loose or poor fitting gas cap will allow gas vapour to leak out, wasting precious fuel. As much as 17 gallons of gas a year can be lost due to a faulty gas cap. Also if and when you do replace it make sure you get a locking one as the rise in gas prices increases the rise in gas theft.
2) Stick with the right type of gas for your particular vehicle by using the correct octane rating that is recommended for it. A higher octane rated fuel such as premium will have little benefit for an engine designed to run on regular gas.
3) Don’t let your engine idle for long periods. An engine that idles for 15 minutes can waste up to a gallon of gas.
4) Drive at a reasonable speed. The faster you drive the less fuel efficient your engine is, keeping your speed down is one of the best ways to improve gas mileage.
5) Make sure that your air filter is cleaned regularly. A clogged air filter will drastically reduce your fuel efficiency, so check it on a regular basis, especially if you drive on dirt roads where it will clog up quicker.
6) Don’t forget your other filters. Routinely check your fuel filter and the PCU valve and breather filter. Replacing these can improve gas mileage by up to 15%
7) Get a mechanic to check your oxygen sensors. A faulty oxygen sensor can send more gas to the engine than it really needs to run efficiently.
8) Don’t be a jack-rabbit driver. Always accelerate and break slowly (except in an emergency obviously). Fast accelerating and aggressive breaking will also reduce your fuel economy.
9) Keep your tires in good condition and check pressures regularly. A flat tire is a drag and will cost you gas.
10) Try to keep your weight down. All that junk you carry around in your trunk (the stuff you never use) is just adding to your gas bill.

These are just 10 simple ways to improve gas mileage and get more MPG for your car. There are many more and most of them are just common sense, so even if you don’t invest in one of the new gas mileage devices on sale you can still make some savings and get more MPG for your car.

Ways To Improve My Gas Mileage

As gas prices continue to rise I find myself looking for tips on how to improve my gas mileage. I have found that there are actually plenty of easy ways to save hundreds of dollars per year on your gas bill simply by keeping your car in the best possible condition and changing a few driving habits. Below you will find some good tips to improve your gas mileage.

When it comes to routine maintenance, the first thing you’ll have to do is to make sure that your tires are well inflated. Low tires pressure increases drag and will reduce your car’s fuel efficiency. Properly inflated tires help to save money and will also prevent premature wear and tear. To determine the appropriate tire pressure, you should consult the owner’s manual and inspect the tire’s sidewalls and tread depth. Wheel alignment is also important, as improper alignment causes unnecessary tire wear. Check the alignment about every 10,000 miles. Rotating and balancing will also extend the life of the tire. A regular tune up also improves gas mileage. Replace your air filter; a new air filter can reduce fuel consumption by 10 %. Other factors that will lead to lower fuel efficiency are; misaligned wheels, worn wheel bearings and brakes, dirty fuel filters, damaged spark plugs, and missed oil changes. By following basic maintenance guidelines on your car, you will cut back on the amount of fuel your car needs to run.

In addition to regular maintenance you can get better gas mileage by altering a few of driving habits. First, plan your route in advance to avoid the stop and go traffic of a backed up road or highway. Tune in traffic reports for news of delays. Second, try to utilize your cruise control and maintain a constant speed. Third, Sudden or unnecessary braking consumes more gas. At traffic lights, avoid the temptation to rev up your engine, instead, slowly accelerate as you leave an intersection. Fourth, roll up your windows, and turn on the air conditioner. Rolling up your windows and using the air conditioner can boost gas mileage! This holds true especially on freeways, where the drag from open windows can be a drag on your car’s fuel efficiency. Then again, you can save gas by parking your vehicle in the shade. Once you get in the car, open the windows for a couple of minutes to allow any trapped hot air to escape. Finally, filling your car and trunk with unnecessary items makes the vehicle heavier, meaning you will burn more gas.

If the high price of gas is still getting you down you might consider a conversion kit to burn water and gas. Can water really power a car? The answer is yes, it can! You are able to use electricity from your car’s battery to separate water into a gas called HHO also called Brown’s Gas or Hydroxy, which, burns smoothly and provides significant energy. HHO provides the atomic power of Hydrogen, while maintaining the stability of water. Water can be used to fuel a car when used as a supplement to gasoline. As a matter of fact, very little water is needed. Only one quart of water provides over 1800 gallons of HHO gas, which can literally last for months and significantly increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiently, improve emissions quality, and save you money.

These are just some of the ways to improve gas mileage. Gas prices are rising day by day and there are a lot of people that are buying cars that use less gas. If you’re not one of them, and you don’t want a hybrid car, then you should know that there are many ways to improve the gas the mileage on any car. Even the slightest improvement could help you spend a lot less money on gas each year.

How to Use 1 Quart of Water to Run Your Car and Improve Gas Mileage

In an age where gas prices are soaring…and people are having to make decisions like these:

”Do I pay my electric bill, or fill up the tank?”

”Do I get food for the house, or fill up my tank?”

”Do I take my kid to the ball game, or fill up my tank?”

Almost everyone is facing these challenges in this era of rising fuel costs.

Once thought to be a minor household expense, the common fuel budget has now grown to major proportions. Most people are searching for alternatives…and following is one of them.

Wouldn’t you like to be able to “run your car on water?” Running a car on water is a dream for most, but not for you…and here’s the basic ingredients you need to be able to do just that:

* 1 quart of distilled water.

* Common household electrolyte.

* A conversion device to convert water flow into HHO and add it to the vehicle’s air stream to burn with fuel.

* A fuse to protect the entire circuit.

* The vehicle’s battery to power the installation.

Installed in the air injection area of the fuel system properly, this system will use electricity from your car’s battery to convert the water into HHO (Brown’s Gas), inject it into the fuel stream, increasing burn efficiency and essentially running your vehicle on a water and fuel mix.

Pretty cool huh? Wouldn’t it be great to drive by a few gas pumps every now and then? If you could save just $50 a month, that equates to over $600.00 a year back in your pocket.

The best part is, to run a car using this “1 quart of water” installation, equates to a trip distance of approximately two tankfuls of gas (results can vary by vehicle). So, you get increased fuel economy and huge savings on your gas bill as a result of doing this conversion.

More benefits to you for doing this HHO conversion:

- Your car’s engine runs smoother and has more power.

- You can reduce the CO2 emissions that are a result of combustion.

- You can reduce wear and tear on your engine.

- Obviously, you will pass a few more gas pumps, right?

- Your engine will operate at an overall lower temperature.

- You could qualify for the IRS Green Fuel tax break (see IRS website).

This conversion also works for diesel vehicles, so even if you own a diesel, you can perform the installation and get your car to run on water (HHO) and have all of the benefits described above.
