Risks and Opportunities for Business Growth in 2010…but keep an eye on those business energy bills!

In his New Year message the CBI director-general Richard Lambert highlighted a number of risks and opportunities for British Business in the year ahead concluding. “

The message is that the UK does indeed face big structural problems – but with sufficient determination they can be largely fixed within the lifetime of the next parliament. At the same time, the job of political and business leaders is to focus relentlessly on those policies that will enable a different and more sustainable pattern of economic growth for the future – education and skills, enterprise and innovation, competitive taxes and flexible labour markets, private sector investment, trade growth and open markets”.

Julian Morgan, MD, Energy Advice Line commented that “Although the Director General’s message is fine at a higher level, for a lot of small businesses there is still a need to be focused on cost savings to remain competitive and watching the overheads to ensure they survive in what is still a recessionary period, key to this is their business energy bills”.

“Company Directors often find themselves with their business electricity and business gas bills forcing them to reduce costs elsewhere because of contract rates that are crippling their operations. However, changes to the supply licence by the regulator OFGEM will benefit small businesses and help them avoid the pitfalls of the big 6 suppliers assuming renewal on very uncompetitive rates for lengthy contract durations. This will benefit business customers signing up for new contracts from 18th January 2010”.

He continued “Utilising the services of an independent energy comparison service like Energy Advice Line can often save a business a great deal of time and money when it comes to searching for and negotiating the best deal possible for their business electricity or business gas requirements”.

“At Energy Advice Line we have tailored ourselves as consumer champions of the business energy market, believing that everyone should be entitled to clear, trustworthy and impartial advice about their business energy bills”.

“With an in-house team of specialists Energy Advice Line can assist customers with any information or queries they may have, in the first instance though it is worth visiting Energy Advice Line’s web site http://www.energyadviceline.org.uk/ or calling 0800 915 1800”

High Electricity Bills? 10 Tips To Stop Getting Shocked By Those Bills

An electrical appliance which does not work to its maximum capacity will result in lesser performance and also higher electricity bills. Therefore, saving on electricity will save you more money.

Here are some best ways that you can implement to save money:

1. Firstly, your appliances must be kept clean and tidy.Regular cleaning helps keeping your appliances in good shape and thereby performing better and also consuming lesser energy.

2. Any qualified service technician should be called in for an annual check up.This helps in reducing the operating costs of the appliance by around 20%,extending the life of the appliance, also improving its safety and the air quality.

3. While using the air conditioners, always set your thermostat at the comfort temperature level permanently.By doing this, you will surely save on your electric bills because less energy is taken by the air conditioning unit to cool air 4 to 5 degrees than it does to cool air 8 to 10 degrees.

4. Items that are more than 10 years old should be replaced because old items don’t function with their optimum efficiency.Replacement of such items will cut down your electricity bills to half the usual.

5. During a power outage, switch off the appliance. And when the power returns, turn the appliance on only after allowing sometime to pass.

6. Don’t over-stuff your refrigerator with bottles and other plastic containers. This will result in overworking the condenser due to lack of free air circulation.

Also,do not keep your refrigerator door open for too long as this will lead to the break out of cool air.

7. Make it a point to buy appliances with the “energy saving” label.Since such appliances consume lower energy, your electricity bill is automatically reduced to a great extent.

8. The use of energy saving lights(light bulbs) is a fairly wise option to save money on electricity bills. This is because these energy saving bulbs last up to almost 12 times longer than the usual ones. And also consume less energy.

9. The usage of energy saving facilities like the energy saving windows and the energy saving appliances at home lessens the relative consumption of energy at home, letting you save your money on the electricity bill.

For example, the “double-glazed” window can be used instead of an ordinary window.

10. Using insulators at home will prevent the warm or cool air out.

Saving electricity will indeed save more money.
